You are on this page looking for ways to refill ink in your fountain pen means that you belong to the group of people who relish the feeling of a smooth fountain pen gliding swiftly on a lovely paper, watching the ink dry quickly and enjoying that slight change of ink shade. These little things make writing with fountain pen a pleasurable experience. When the fountain pen glides like butter on paper it gives a feeling that writing with other pens do not give. One may that a gel pen is also smooth but there is something about writing with a fountain pen that makes that feeling very different compared to writing with other kinds of pen.
A fountain pen is a writing instrument that needs a little bit of care and maintenance to make sure it lasts you a long time. I have had pens from my childhood days which are still working, I learned these tips from my mother and her father, who taught me how to take care of pens. They passed down to me, few pens from their time and from my experience I have seen that even a simple budget quality pen has performed very well over decades.
In present times I have seen such a variety of beautiful fountain pens available in the market, especially online, the variety is so good. If you have been using fountain pen and still not delved into the world of calligraphy, then do give it a try. To begin with just change the nib or pen, with the nib that is made for calligraphy, that slight slant or flat nib or broad nib as it is called, will completely change the look of your writing. I find this to be the simplest way to do calligraphy and write in so many different types of fonts or lettering. Such a simple task like writing may be made more fun and enjoyable by using some beautiful writing instruments, in fact, it makes one want to write just for an excuse to be able to use such finely built fountain pen, they are such a wonderful experience to hold in hands and to write with.

A fountain pen user in today’s modern, fast paced world may often find themselves in a situation where ink runs out and they have to quickly refill ink in the fountain pen. Here is a simple fix for it that requires minimum things, because many times we do not have any tools with us to refill ink in the pen quickly, [tools may have been broken or misplaced].
Got nothing to fill ink in your fountain pen ? Mostly Ink dropper or pipett / pipette is used to fill eyedropper type of fountain pens, which is what today’s post and video is about. [A fountain pen or ink pen aficionado knows that the fountain pens differ not only on the basis of nibs etc. but also on the type of filling system they have and there are a few types of fountain pen filling systems available.] The dropper filling system of fountain pen is filled with a pipette or glass / plastic dropper as shown in photos below.

To fill ink in the fountain pen, you will need your pen, [duh] ink -pot and a piston convertor. [I am using it from another pen that I have, which has piston filling system instead of eyedropper system] I empty the piston filler so you get to see the convertor better. It has a small metal ball inside it. Slide the piston up and down few times to get rid of excess air and allow maximum ink to be filled in the pen. Watch this YouTube Video to see how you simply slide it to fill up the ink.

My ink-pot is not full now, so tilt it carefully to reach the ink [or use waterman ink pots, they may be easily tilted, see the photo here] lower the piston and draw up the ink in convertor, transfer the ink to the body of the pen and just repeat it a few times until your pen is full. You may also leave some space in pen as I am doing here, so it will not overflow with ink. If you have any ink left in the piston, Transfer it back to the ink-pot. Always remember to close the pen downwards like I am showing in video, into the ink pot to take out excess ink, first it is very easy and mess-free way secondly, it gets the ink flowing to the nib, which prepares your pen. Meaning to say that your pen is ready to write immediately and u do not need to wait. This is the simplest, fastest and easy way of filling up ink in a jiffy in your fountain pen and a piston fill lets you use whatever ink you want / have, and holds a lot of it compared to other convertors.

Yes you can get bit more ink in cartridges but you get them pre-filled. Other way i.e. if you want to use ink that you have or one that you like, then first use up the ink in cartridge then use a syringe to fill it up with your choice or shade of ink. Give the video a thumbs-up and share the post with other connoisseurs of fountain pen, or have you already tried this way, do let me know in the comments.
You may use a dropper / pipette / syringe which won’t get ink on your hands. I don’t mind ink or colors on my hands, it feels like a mini Holi festival or playing with colors. This ink is not permanent so washes off easily. One may also use pre-filled cartridges but first you will be using the colors they come with, not some shade of your choice, or some glittery, sparkly ink you may have. Secondly and more importantly the cartridges are made of plastic and harmful to environment, just like refills of ball-point pen. Refilling ink in your ink pens is also a small step towards sustainable living. Fountain pens are not that much of a fuss if one knows how to maintain and care for them.

This video, on this day, today, about fountain pens is dedicated to my sweet & caring lovely mother as she too enjoyed using them and taught me so many tips about pens. She used to marvel at the various kinds of pens made today and being a teacher, pen was very special to her and held a place in her heart.
